Description | With the exception of GDR/Q3/7, these are the volumes of marriage licence allegations (or affidavits) sworn at the Diocesan Registry in Gloucester before the Chancellor and his surrogates. Some of the earlier volumes, as indicated, include notes of numbers of blank licences, bonds and allegations sent to surrogates in other much later than the original allegation (Original loose allegations from 1747 to 1837 have survived (GDR/Q2)). `Memoranda' in this case includes occasional notes of caveats, but is more often to do with the sending out of licences to surrogates and with the Chancellor's and Registrar's fees. The early volumes are in manuscript, and the first printed entries are in GDR/Q3/39 (1724); subsequent volumes contain either the printed form of allegation, with two or three entries on each page, or bound single allegations, or a combination of both. |
