Admin History | The Society of Friends' Meeting House at Broad Campden dates from 1663. An account of its history, including its closure in 1874 and sale in 1931, can be found in D1873/5/4. Apart from the original deeds (deposited in 1962) and a few records of 1915-17 and 1931-34, the bulk of this collection relates to the re-purchase, renovation and re-opening of the House in the 1960s. This was largely due to the energy and commitment of Charles Tyson of Westington Old Manor, Chipping Campden, who was a trustee and clerk to the Meeting until his death in 1978 [see especially D1873/2/6 and D1873/5/2]. The surviving correspondence is particularly detailed because it usually includes copies of Tyson's out-going letters |
